This Week on the Compound - The Hateful Eight

In Case You Missed It...

The latest goings on inside the Compound.

INSIDE THE COMPOUND

This week, Josh Brown and Michael Batnick were joined by Sean Russo on What Are Your Thoughts? where they discussed the new spot Bitcoin ETFs and sifted through 20 of the worst-performing stocks on the Nasdaq, i.e., ‘The Hateful Eight.’ (Listen)

OUTSIDE THE COMPOUND

Ben Carlson at A Wealth of Common Sense has been updating historical returns charts on the U.S. stock market, bonds and cash, and major asset class returns. This week, he took a crack at estimating the return on residential real estate.

We shouldn’t be comparing the roof over your head to an S&P 500 index fund. Vanguard doesn’t provide you shelter when you buy an index fund. It’s impossible to compute the psychic income you get from owning a home in the neighborhood and school district you desire.

FRIENDS OF THE COMPOUND

Ian Cassel at MicroCapClub, who appeared on TCAF 99, had a great post this week entitled Grow Yourself.

The hardest part of achieving a great long-term investment track record is over half the time your returns will look average. You can go years where it feels like you are working hard for mediocre returns. Then all of a sudden it changes and the previous year’s efforts, perhaps helped by a better macro environment create circumstances where you don't have to work as hard for your returns. The world works for you and pulls forward 5-10 years’ worth of returns and riches in a single year.
