INSIDE THE COMPOUND
One big topic in personal finance is reaching ‘your number.’ That is what amount of assets do you need to live the life you desire. Ben Carlson on Ask the Compound and at A Wealth of Common Sense on what it means today to have $1 million and why it matters where you live. Nick Maggiulli at Of Dollars and Data looks at whether you can live on the interest of $5 million in T-bills. He writes:
Getting to $5M is hard. Only 4% of U.S. households (across all ages) have this much net worth or more (based on the latest data). But getting to $5M and putting it in T-Bills demonstrates extraordinary financial discipline. It is this discipline that is the real asset, not the $5M.
CHART OF THE WEEK
The stock market couldn’t get enough of the Mag 7 stocks over the past few years. How times have changed. Matt Cerminaro at Chart Kid Matt shows that in 2026 the stock market has favored just about everything but the Mag 7. Go figure.
