The Small Cap Comeback

This Week on The Compound

This Week on The Compound

This week on TCAF, Josh and Michael spoke with Todd Sohn, Managing Director of Sector and ETF Research at Strategas Securities. They discussed the big move in small-cap stocks, what it will take to get cash off the sidelines, and the business of thematic ETFs. (Listen)

OUTSIDE THE COMPOUND

It’s now a cliche that ‘personal finance is more personal than finance.’ This definitely applies when it comes to owning a vacation home. Ben Carlson, writing in A Wealth of Common Sense, talks about the good luck that played into his family buying a lake house and how it turned out for the good.

Buying a second home was the best/luckiest financial decision we’ve ever made.

But even if we lost money on our second house experiment, the investment would have been worth it.

We’re creating memories that will last a lifetime and it’s hard to put a price on that.

FRIENDS OF THE COMPOUND

It’s not just you. The Internet, if that term still applies, feels a lot less fun than it used to. You can even say it feels like a slog. Prior TCAF guest Packy McCormick, writing at Not Boring, writes about how we got here and some potential solutions.

Slop itself isn’t new, though. Slop is just mediocrity in pursuit of metrics.

Every time you see a website optimized for SEO, a SaaS business optimized for metrics, or a LinkedIn post optimized for engagement, you see slop. If it’s taken over X already, it will take over the rest of the internet soon, too.

Slop, slop everywhere and not a drop of think.

MERCH

A one-of-a-kind finance-themed Hawaiian shirt just dropped! It is a collab between The Compound and Tropical Bros. The best thing is that 10% of all sales will be donated to No Kid Hungry.

COMING SOON

Josh and Michael will be joined on TCAF this week by Matt Hougan, Chief Investment Officer at Bitwise Asset Management.
