Skipping Out on the Fed

This Week on The Compound

This week on The Compound

This week, Josh and Michael (and Jill) were joined by Alicia Levine, Head of Investment Strategy and Equity Advisory Solutions, at BNY Mellon Wealth Management. They discussed the many reasons to sell, our collective hatred of inflation, and the meaning of meme stocks. (Listen)

INSIDE THE COMPOUND

Nvidia, Apple, AI, oh my! While much is being made about AI’s effect on certain stocks and the stock market as a whole, less is being made about its real-world impact. Josh wrote this week about some AI-focused advisortech startups and their potential impact on how financial advisors do their jobs.

This is not crypto, which has not become anywhere near being mainstream for financial advice practices. This is not robo, which only a tiny fraction of advisors have embraced despite the fact that the technology has been around for more than twelve years now. This is different. I am absolutely convinced that AI workflows will be as ubiquitous as the use of email among financial advisory firms by this time next year.

FRIENDS OF THE COMPOUND

Kyla Scanlon, author of the new book In This Economy? How Money & Markets Really Work, was on Live From the Compound this week. She discussed with Josh and Michael the disconnect between the rosy economic situation and poor consumer sentiment. In a post this week Kyla wrote about how housing is playing a big role in the ‘vibecession.’

There is a reason that housing is 2/3rds or more of the CPI print! This is all problematic because housing is a foundational need. When younger people talk about how they experience the economy, that’s usually what they are referring to. Right now, a lot of people feel pretty poor because of the cost of shelter.

MERCH

A one-of-a-kind finance-themed Hawaiian shirt just dropped! It is a collab between The Compound and Tropical Bros. The best thing is that 10% of all sales will be donated to No Kid Hungry.

COMING SOON

Next week on TCAF, Josh and Michael will be joined by Lori Calvasina, Managing Director & Head of U.S. Equity Strategy at RCM Capital Markets.
