INSIGHTS

No matter how you slice it, 2025 has been a lot. Derek Thompson, host of the Plain English podcast, has a (long-ish) post up looking at the ‘25 Most Interesting Ideas I’ve Found in 2025 (So Far).’ It includes items about the economy, technology, and society. Some are hopeful, and some are downright depressing. On self-driving cars, he writes:

Self-driving cars are happening. (And that’s good.)

In 2015, I kept hearing that self-driving cars were going to take over the roads in 2020. That didn’t happen. Even by 2022, autonomous vehicles seemed like they might be a classic case of technologists over-promising a future that never arrived. (Jetpacks, anyone?) But now driverless taxis, led by Waymo, are booming.

CHART OF THE WEEK

Markets move first. Matt Cerminaro at Chart Kid Matt has a chart that highlights this insight. Market moves can, in the moment, seem paradoxical, but over time, the fundamentals often catch up to the market.
